Image Information

When you select Image Info on the image menu, you are presented with a window showing three different kinds of information about the clicked image:

Image on Disk

This section presents information about the image as it is stored on disk. Information includes name, location, size, format, and date.

Processing Instructions

If you have manipulated the image in any way, this section describes how. Information includes cropping type and area, color adjustments and conversions, redeye processing, and more.

EXIF Data

EXIF is an acronym for Extended Interchange Format, a format that digital camera makers settled on for embedding data about an image in the same file as the image. The amount of data has expanded over time, to the point where an image taken by a state-of-the-art camera is accompanied by a very long list of information. Some of this embedded data is interesting, some is not, and some is virtually incomprehensible. Regardless of its utility, it is all presented in this section.

Note: While the EXIF format has many predefined fields, it is an extensible format; any camera maker can make up their own, embed them in images, and Easel can read and show them. However, non-standard fields may not make much sense, and by default, the information window does not show them. If you want them shown, go to toolbox settings and change the setting for Include Unknown EXIF Tags.
