Help System Operation

This online help system can be, and by default is, actively managed to co-operate on screen so that items of interest and information about them are visible simultaneously.

Three settings, accessed in Toolbox Settings, control help window positioning. These settings are Position Help WIndow, Minimum Help Window Width, and Slide Calling Window. A fourth help-related setting, Tutor Mode, controls automatic display of help.

When Position Help Window is active, help requests generated when you click Help or press the F1 key are packaged with resizing messages that locate and size the help window to fit between the edge of the screen and the edge of the calling window.

If Slide Calling Window is active, the application window calling for help is moved to the left edge of the screen and the help window  is placed to its right.  If not active, the calling window is not moved and help will be placed on whichever side is furthest from the edge of the screen.

If the width available between the edge of the screen and the calling window is less than the value you set for Minimum Help Window Width, expressed as a percentage of total screen width, the help window will be sized to this minimum. The default value is 35%.

If Position Help Window is not checked, the current size and position of the help window is not changed and the other options have no effect.

When Tutor Mode is active, context-sensitive help displays automatically whenever a new window is opened in the application.
